About Me

I have a love for designing and developing learning experiences that result in effective solutions and practical changes. My professional experience has given me the knowledge to design effective and engaging instruction for all learners. No one should be limited by poorly designed and inaccessible learning content.

My Experience

In my current role, I collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and develop engaging, accessible online and blended courses for higher education. I have a proven track record in our quality assurance (QA) process with an average pass rate of 98.45%. Additionally, I provide consultation and training to SMEs on best practices for online learning, use of the learning management system (LMS), and application of edtech tools. By promoting a collaborative relationship with SMEs, I've been able to put over 20 courses through our QA process during the 2024-2025 academic year.

You’ll notice throughout my portfolio that I have taken the time to learn and become proficient with a range of tools. As an educator, I worked with learning management systems to implement online learning and with design tools like Canva to support the visual design of instructional materials. Now, as an instructional designer, I've been able to apply my experience as an educator in a new way and have grown as a professional, gaining new skills and knowledge.

My Design Process

Before any development takes place, I always meet with the SME and/or developer first. This allows me to build a relationship with the SME/developer, learn their vision for the course, and discuss the potential resources needed. In that meeting, I also cover best practices for online/blended learning and accessibility guidelines. From there, I work with the SME to identify what learners need to be able to do as a result of the learning, as well as the best way to deliver the learning. This informs the learning objectives and assessment strategies. I then work with the developer to create a design plan to follow. Once agreed upon, I collaborate with the SME/developer to create the learning content and keep major stakeholders informed. Upon completion, I do a final review of the course in its entirety to ensure that it meets our QA standards before going to review. After the course has passed review, I reach out to the SME/developer once more to congratulate them. Moving forward, I'm hoping to also include an end-of-course-development survey to see where the SME/developer feels the process could be improved.
